In 2015, the apps will reach their 6th birthday, without any improvement. Ben Wandelt works now in Paris. The " Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign" does not care about this project, as they delete emails without reading them. A solution to have concerned people taking a little bit more care of the crunchers is to STOP crunching on this project. At least until they give answer to all the questions we posted since ... etc. I don't understand the behaviour of the admins. I don't understand the NSF and NASA support (if real) associated with the lack of information + lack of interactivity of this project. It's not FAIK's responsability ! Ben, if you have enough time one day to go through the forums, please confirm the project is still alive. Ciao |

Very interesting questions posed |

I joined in 2009, mostly to have a project related to Astronomy that would fill in the idle times when Seti@home had no work. I, unfortunately, share much of the sentiment expressed in this and other threads that the Cosmology project lacks the kind of active leadership that would reassure the volunteer computers that their contributions are worthwhile. Another thread posted the question "how do I delete my membership." As far as I can tell, the BOINC system does not provide for that action. A volunteer can become "inactive" of course but apparently the account remains in the project's database forever. So, I shall just remove the Cosmology@home project from my boinc manager settings and let the database carry on as it is designed to do. I have already selected another BOINC project that appears more worthwhile for my contributed computer cycles. Fade to black........ |

Well, i can't deny the obvious, but I'm still somehow loyal to the project, although i've stopped crunching it a few weeks ago. Actually I'm watching daily for the server status. I've got still the hope, that something new could happen. asteroids@home is a fine project Eugene, you've well chosen. In my opinion, Asteroids@home or universe@home are the most promising astronomy related project at his time. |

I also keep loyal to this wonderful project. Seti is having server issues atm, been thinking of starting to crunch here again... Nice thing here at Cosmology is that one can post with a zero RAC! |

I run this project because the idea interested me in the beginning. Now I simply run it so my computer always has enough work to do as my other projects (Einstein@home & Seti@home) sometimes have server issues and I can't get enough work to do. I would love to see updates from the people that run this project. |

It would be good if Ben posted more than once every couple of years. It would assure folk that our data are doing something useful. |

Ben is there: http://ilp.upmc.fr/wandelt.php He answers to emails, mostly, although this didn't helped me understanding project politics either. I have stopped crunching this project in its actual state and wait for an eventual relaunch. Al-Ashraf, if you want to keep your computers busy i recommend universe@home to you. |

I ran this project from the start. Wow, two new cosmology projects - C@H and Milkyway@H. Hmm, one's roaring away, and the other has a lot of work done but no support of any sort. Okay so, we've done millions of job runs, I personally would like to know if they are going to be used for anything (or even if they still exist!) There's a huge pile of completed jobs waiting in the assimilator, I only assume that the BOINC server code has run out of space to put them anywhere. Okay so far Professor Ben told us he cant spend much time talking to us because (a) he is teaching, (b) he had an accident and broke a limb, and (c) he has gone to France but not told anyone. So, do we soldier on? Or will the plug get pulled, like that awful Predictor@home? [edit] Sorry but YES, I was a contributor but I became so pissed off with it all a few years ago that I changed my account to random_numbers@random.com and the password similarly [/edit] |

Talking for myself, I've actually stopped running jobs for C@H, mainly because of technical reasons. I have the suspicion that C@H in its current state still serves a purpose, maybe still the evaluation of planck data. There are also still people who seem to work with/on PICO, the program which is speeded up by C@H calculations. And the domain was new registered (and paid?) in 2014. It seems to me as if C@H has to accomplish a specific goal before anything changes. There were/are plans to move the server, running a new application and so on - and, of course, I'm still very enthusiastic about the topic. Maybe you could speed up this by soldiering on... maybe not. No one on this message board can answer that, so i think, everyone has to decide for himself. |

This project is dead !! Anyone interested in astronomy would be better off running something else. Einstein@Home or MilkyWay@home Or, if you want to do something to make this world a better place for everyone, try, World Community Grid |

This project appears to have been completely abandoned years ago. I can't fathom why the servers are still operating. |

In fact, it is really not abandoned. It's just the worst community management I've ever seen in DC. |

New computer. Fresh install of BOINC. Signing into existing accounts: SETI@home, check. einstein@home, check cosmology@home, not one of the choices in the list of projects. It's been a while since I had signed up and starteed, but am I missing something, or has cosmology@home been dropped as one of the main BOINC tasks? |

You are right. It has been dropped as one of the project suggestions of the Boinc-Manager. |

Any idea how to get it re-installed, or is it just a lost cause? |

AFAIK it has to be requested in Berkeley. The guys who distribute the client make this list too. However, I think they decided to drop C@H for a very obvious cause. If we, as dedicated volunteers, are sometimes unsure about the actual state of C@H, how should the Berkeley guys know better? C@H is no project which you promote to newbies. The download errors. The long WUs with few checkpoints. The appearance. The project communication. You know what i mean. IMHO, we should wait for fall/winter. There is a chance that some improvements occur in this time. In this case, there could a new attempt for an entry in the client be succesfull. But if the project stays in its actual state, I honestly wouldn't attempt that. I wouldn't even want to. You can still join manually, via http://cosmologyathome.org. You have to fill it as project address within the projectjoin assistant of the Boincmanager. |

Thanks for the reply. I guess we shall wait and see. |

Pity that this project appears to have died. I always thought it seemed pretty interesting. Well, I guess there's still lots of others to work on. |

It is not dead. It is still active and serves a purpose. It's just poor maintained and managed. But you are surely right, there are more participation deserving projects. |
