Keep getting dozens of WUs that ALL need completion in 12 days but each of my PCs is only completing a WU in 2 or so days, maybe longer as I don't do 24/7.

24 x 2 =/= 12

PLEASE ...

Add 1 month to complete each WU, then I may have a chance to do useful work. Otherwise I have to keep Aborting tasks so that WUs are properly processed by other 24/7 power WU crunchers (... and my processng power isn't wasted BTW).

Thanks Ray
(not a power WU cruncher.)

I agree :-/

I finish just in time and my pc is working 24x7.

It's not difficult to double the dead line and everybody will be happy.

Why do you get "dozens of WU's"? I don't, I typically have a single wu on the machine, (machine is a quad core, but Cosmo has only 5% quota), it crunches to completion in a day or so, then gets another one, (download failures depending of course!!!).

I'd investigate the CAUSE of your problem first, before anything else. It will probably be easier to fix.

Just dumped CAH on one PC as the last couple of tasks caused continual disk thrashing due to the size of the Working Set pushing out RAM usage beyond what is available.

So ... aside from (sensible) longer Completion times ... please create smaller WUs.

That way I can re-enable CAH to do the good work and avoid 99 hour duration caused by current too-large WUs.

Pretty please?

Thanks, Ray
(PS: the CAUSE of all of this is CAH, I can only report the EFFECT(S) for superior beings to act upon in a constructive manner.)

You have decided that the cause of your problem is with the project. If that is what you want to believe, fine, you can believe whatever you want.

I would vote against extending the deadline, why should people who don't have your symptom, wait around for even more weeks with their finished work stuck in pending?

I have the same problem. Please, extend the deadline. I don't use my PC 24/7.

The problem is that the estimated time was set several years back when the tasks were only a couple hours long. When the new tasks were developed nobody reset it, and there is nobody here now to do anything.

All you can do is reject lots of tasks till your DCF adjusts itself to compensate (or you can tweak it yourself if you feel adventurous).

I too wish they'd set the deadlines for a little longer as Cosmology invariably runs overtime and therefore my credit is lost, if I read the rules correctly.
I have a quad core with HT, effectively 8 cores and my GPU working at pretty high temperatures as it is, and I am not about to go into meltdown over this...my machine that is..;-)

So what do you recommend? Buying 12 more PC's just to get through the workload?

My PC is a 64-bit core i7 O/C to 4.02ghz with 5TB of HDD space and 12gb of memory and should be able to cope with just about anything but obviously the deadlines for this client are set too short.
I am not going to burn electricity needlessly just to satisfy Cosmology@home alone.
The next one that misses the deadline goes the way the last one went...the abort route.
I am not so religiously stuck on garnering praise for quantity over quality.

It`s not what you have got it`s what you are doing with it . . .
How many other things it the pc doing,
if it has many other projects to do work for and is not left on 24/7
My old athlon xp 2500 mobile running win98se with 1Gb of ram takes about 25 hours to crunch a work unit,
Though cosmo is all it dose 24/7 :)

No, because that would give you 12 more problems before the DCF on each machine settled down.

And we can see here that its not fetching a vast number of jobs a week for you to abort.

It is `old` and slow by todays standards no question about that,
I did have to replace the seven large capacitors on the motherboard fore years ago, they suffered from BOINC burn :)
They work without any problems and in winter help keep the spare room warm.
Even a old croak like it can do cosmo, I just dont overload it with work and then wonder why things dont work the way i expected.

I've had to slow everything down for many projects as using my GPU has been a mistake. It started to distort my desktop image despite settings to not use it during other operations and I figured it was overheating despite the fact that its fan was blasting away as were all the others.

So back to CPU-only operations and I had to abort hundreds of CUDA WU's before they even had a chance to start as they would all have ended up going way over deadline as a result. Thankfully there weren't any for Cosmo effected by this.

Too bad, but better than having to buy a replacement graphics board or more which isn't a cheap proposition, at least not for this rig.

Hello yours,
since a few days i have a very nice issue.
Normaly i calculte the received wu's in maximum 2 days (i7-2600k PC highend). But now:
- wu's run 4-12 hours elapsed time / 4-8 hours cpu-time
- wu's are marked as "deadline passed" (8 wu's in the last 3 days)
- cannot find this wu's in my tasklist on cosmology.org, so i can't review the original wu-parameters / deadline.

questions:
- where i can find this wu's in my tasklist?
- whats happen with this deadline? for my the deadline was not exceeded.

( using boinc 6.12.26, win7/64bit, i7-2600k CPU, 8 GB Memory)

Thanks to all
juergen
