There are only three applications available and these are downloaded to your computer automaticaly, you can veiw what they are by hovering your mouse over the `Returning Participants` tab at the top of any page and clicking on the `Applications` drop down link. Memory reqired for cosmo is about 800MB per work unit, posibly more on some of them so if you have a quad core to be safe you need to have a minimum of 3GB of ram to be able to run them all, if you have hyper threading switched on DOUBLE IT, if you run other BOINC projects as well then you must add the memory reqiurements of those projects to the total, then add what your operating system needs, The cosmology application checkpoints are a long way appart and i recomend that you set boinc manager to `leave applications in memory when suspended` to `yes` otherwise the workunits may never finnish, this dose use up a very large ammount of ram, i feel this is the only way to run cosmo without the workunits getting stuck in a never ending loop. |

So how come these requirements were never mentioned when I thought about signing up. My computer has nowhere these abilities. What gets me is that we started doing work units that ran on my machine in about 5-6 hours. No problem. Other applications are doing the same. Suddenly, without warning I got dumped on with a WU that has now been running for over 40 hours and still has 15% more to do. It is also as of this time 2 days late. I am assuming that this one requires one of those fancy quad processors or probably an AlienWare gaming computer with tons of speed and memory. I have suspended getting any more work at this time. And, when the unit is finally finished (in about 6 more hours), I will see If I get any credit for it. I seriously doubt if will, so all that time will have been wasted. At least I hope the project can use the results, if it isn't too late. |

800 MB per wu? I've got 2 running right now and they take up 420 MB and 370 MB. |

I have 2 WUs using 670 & 660 MB. This is FAR too much memory, SETI uses 66MB and MilkyWay uses 15MB. When these 2 WUs have completed, I'm sorry, but I won't be running any more. |

I, too, went through all the effort to participate here, and now learn that my meager 1/4 gig ram isn't nearly enough to do anything. WHY didn't someone post this in the system requirements area? After all, if Windows 98 is able to run Cosmo@home, then my W2k machine shouldn't have any problem. RIGHT!? wrong. Sorry to have bothered you. |

try this: http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/index.php i think its funny, i run this to keep NFS@home, which can use 1gb of memory per wu from hogging it all on my quad. in 2004, i paid $145 for 2x256mb of memory, just got 2x4gm sticks for $85, go figure. |
